Atsushi Okubo's Soul Eater
The Grim Reaper himself has set up a school in the middle of Nevada, a school dedicated to training soldiers in a struggle to control the forces of magic. Grouped into twos or threes, the students take on the role of weapon or meister. Weapons are able to turn into their weapon of choice at will, amplifying the strength of the Meister, the wielder of said weapon. The goal of this school? To prevent the creation of Demon-Gods, the Kishin.
Created by mangaka Atsushi Okubo, Soul Eater is a Shonen series for older teens, held together by the theme of partnership and teamwork, which is pretty much the focalpoint of much of the series. The school and its students work together for one goal, but often have to deal with the difficulties of dealing with people of different personalities and unifying their goals to reach a common end.
In the beginning, Soul Eater was a one-shot manga about the titular character, Soul 'Eater' Evans and his partner, Maka. But, after much enthusiasm came from the one-shot, the creator was asked to do more, and thus, he created two more one-shots introducing the other five main characters, Death the Kid, the Thompson Twins, Black*Star, and Tsubaki. From then on, it became a full-fledged shonen series that is ongoing.
