You like a good game of cat and mouse? Maybe a good detective story? Why not Death Note?

Tsugumi Ohba's Death Note SNote

Death Note is a strange story indeed. It follows the ambiguous hero/villain Light Yagami or Raito Yagami, depending on your preference. I prefer english to engrish, personally. He was just a normal high school boy, helpless to the world around him until he finds a book with the words 'Death Note' written on the cover. Inside it contained empty pages of notebook paper with some ominous instructions, referring to the use of the notebook as a kind of hit-list that does the killing itself.

Tired of the 'rotten' world around him, Light (or Raito) begins to use it as a weapon against injustice in the world, with the help (or lack thereof) of the owner of the notebook, a shinigami named Ryuuk. As events escalate, the police become involved and hire a mysterious world-class detective called 'L' to get to the bottom of the situation.

Discuss.

Ahhhh now Death Note I know a thing or two about!!

It's interesting seeing the transformation in Light, once he gets his head around how the Death Note works and his schemes become increasingly ingenious. Perhaps that potential was always there, but at the beginning it's not expected from him. Making it all the more exciting.

And of course my favourite is L. Not least because he not only works out Light's plans every step of the way (just sucks he never has any evidence :/) but he's also one of the comedy-relief characters. His munching is so cute <3

I don't think anyone can dislike L. It's just not humanly possible.

I've only read a few books of the manga, though, so I'm not sure if anything that different happens than in the anime.

The anime is more or less completely faithful to the manga. It misses out a couple of tiny details but the events are exactly the same :3

Oh alright then. That makes a change. Y'see, manga is impossible to buy in Ireland unless you live in one of the big cities, and my brother used to live in one of them, but now that he doesn't, I can't buy manga anymore. ;_; Therefore I only have the first two Death Note books.

I don't like Near, though. >>;

Mhm. The anime should be fairly easy to get hold of now, I gots mine in the local HMV :3

Lol XD it's funny because when I first read the manga I thought Near was the shizz. But his portrayal in the anime was highly boring :p

Actually, it's just as hard to buy anime here. I've only seen the Death Note movies in HMV. ;_;

Ololol. I hate Near because he's trying to replace L completely except badly. D:

I remember back when I 1st watched the three live action movies. I couldn't stop thinking about them. They kicked ass, big time. Loved it to no end, still do. Not much into the manga, though. I only read to like the 7th book, out of 12, I think. I also managed to get an L tshirt..from WALMART, on clearance for $5. One of the most random encounters of my life. And what happened? I lost the shirt in my tsunami of a room. >.<
