Shinichiro Watanabe's Samurai Champloo
Sharp, like the edge of a samurai sword, the mental blade cuts through flesh and bone. Though my mind's at peace, the world's out of order. Missing the inner heat, life gets colder...
Some days, some nights; some live, some die in the way of the samurai.
Some fight, some bleed; sun up to sun down, the sons of a battlecry...
A battlecry.
This series is an amalgam, an anachronistic mish-mash of semi-accurate Japanese history and modern culture and hip-hop. And it's a VERY enjoyable ride.
A girl named Fuu has been working at a restaurant to make ends meet. At the same time, two samurai have entered town, doing their things until they meet each other in the restaurant where she works and immediately vow to kill each other, fighting on the spot. They get in trouble with the authorities and Fuu breaks them free of a death sentence under one condition: They travel with her and don't kill each other until they help her find a samurai who smells of sunflowers.
Created by Shinichiro Watanabe, creator of Cowboy Bebop, this series as just as deep in style, music, and characterization, unlike Cowboy Bebop, all the episodes lead to a clear end, but that's all the more reason to join these ronins on their journey.
